    to me
    Hi Daniel,
At the moment this is the only photo I have of Katie Landry. It was sent to
me by a friend (and cousin) Katie Groves Kenny. It was taken in 1950 when
Katie was baptized. Her godmother (holding her in the photo) is Katie
McGovern Landry, my father's half-sister. On the far right is her brother
Thomas McGovern. Baby Katie's full name at the time was Kathleen Esther
    Groves.

I remember meeting Aunt Katie when I moved back to Ottawa as a teenager. She
was the repository of many stories about the family and I wish I had
recorded them back then! Our grandfather John James McGovern was quite a
character. He came over from Killeshandra, Co. Cavan, Ireland in 1867 at the
age of 14! He had six children with his first wife Mary Agnes Doran (I've
had no luck finding a wedding notice for them. It would be around 1872).
They moved to Pittsburgh where some of the children were born then they came
    back to Ottawa.

In 1906 after Mary Agnes died and one of his daughters, Mary Ellen, he went
back to Ireland and courted my grandmother, Bridget Martin, whose farm was
very close to where his father's had been. He had three children from this
marriage, the youngest of whom was my father, James Redmond Emmett McGovern,
    born in 1920.

I think Theodore Landry lived just a few houses away from the McGoverns in
downtown Ottawa. Katie's grandson, Ted Landry, lost his parents when he was
still a young child. Katie took responsibility for his upbringing, as did
her daughter Esther. Her other daughter, Eileen, married Charlie St.
Germain, who was well known in Ottawa as a city councillor. Ted was in the
army when he was young and used to visit us in London, Ontario, where I grew
up, when he was stationed at Wolseley Barracks there. He passed away in
Elliott Lake, Ontario, at a relatively young age.

A McGovern relative from the USA posted the family gravestone on Ancestry.
You probably have this already, but it gives a lot of info about the family.
I'm not an official member of Ancestry yet but they have allowed me to post
the McGovern family tree. Elizabeth McGovern of "Downton Abbey" fame is the
    great-great-grand-daughter of John James McGovern.

Hope that some of this is helpful to you, Daniel. I'm very busy with music
now that I"m retired and can only do family tree when I'm not too busy but
I'm hoping for a time when I can put more of the pieces together. When
sorting through family photos I will send on to you any I might have of the
    Landry family.

    Best wishes.

    Christened:
