– Alexis Foisy et Honoré Foisy, ferblantiers –
Fils d’un patriote, le forgeron Isaïe Foisy, qui s’était illustré et s’était fait emprisoné lors de la Rébellion de 1837-1838, Alexis Foisy est né à St-Eustache (Bas-Canada) le 19 septembre 1832. Ferblantier et plombier, il s’établit à Bytown/Ottawa dans les années 1850. Il est membre fondateur de l’Union Saint-Joseph d’Ottawa en 1863. Il est l’époux d’Euphrosine Larose (1833-1873), de Rose-Anne Baulne (v. 1833-1881) et de Lucie Vincent (1835-1930). Père de quatre enfants, il meurt à Ottawa le 22 décembre 1888 à l’âge de 57 ans. Son fils, Isaïe Honoré Foisy, naît à Ottawa en juin 1856. Ferblantier, plombier et toiturier, Honoré Foisy est propriétaire d’une quincaillerie sur la rue Dalhousie. Époux de Joséphine Cantin (1858?-1928), il est père d’au moins cinq enfants, meurt à Ottawa le 26 décembre 1918 à l’âge de 62 ans. Le nom d’Honoré Foisy est passé à l’histoire en raison de la façade de « la maison de fer-blanc » qui est devenue une attraction touristique. Au début du XXe siècle, Foisy annonçait son commerce en ornant l’extérieur de sa maison de la Basse-Ville d’Ottawa d’un revêtement de fer-blanc. En 1961, la maison est démolie mais la façade est conservée, restaurée par l’artiste Art Price, puis installée en 1973 par la Commission de la capitale nationale (CCN) sur le mur d’un édifice de la rue Sussex, dans une cour qui s’appelle maintenant la « Cour de la Maison-de-fer-blanc ». Suspendue sur le mur latéral de pierre de l’ancien magasin Leblanc et Lemay (aujourd’hui l’Académie de dessin de mode Richard Robinson), la façade provient d’une modeste maison de bois, jadis située au 136 de la rue Guigues et dont Honoré Foisy était propriétaire de 1904 à 1913.

Jean Baptiste Foisy operated a tobacco store with pool tables while living with his family around the corner at 150 Cathcart Street. He was the son of Alexis Foisy, one of Bytown’s
