Jean-Paul Bazinet
27 June, 1928 – 3 April, 2021
Jean-Paul Bazinet was a gentle and kind man, the beloved husband of Suzanne Clairoux and the loving father of Lise, Robert (Ginette Séguin), Julie and André.
Born in Lowertown, Jean-Paul was a lifetime Ottawan. He worked at the Canadian International Development Agency as a contract officer for Francophone countries in Africa and the Caribbean. There he found an ethical match with the principles that he lived by, which included respect, hard work and honesty, and his hopes for a better, more equitable world.
Family was central to Jean-Paul. He and Suzanne married in 1959 and they were never apart. He was ahead of his time as a dedicated father during the 1960s and 70s. He volunteered in all the activities the kids joined, and delighted in travelling with the family across Canada, finding educational opportunities at every turn.
He never expected to live to a ripe old age, as he was sickly as a child and was quarantined for a year in a tuberculosis sanatarium (an ironic foreshadowing of the Covid lockdown).
The family wish to thank the personal care workers, nurses, staff in all departments, and volunteers at the Centre d’accueil Champlain in Vanier. Champlain was a marvelous home to him for nine years, starting with the day program and then the 3rd floor of the residence. As his Alzheimer’s Disease progressed, he was treated with compassion and patience by a truly excellent team of dedicated people who were even more wonderful during the past year.
At his request, there will be no service. Those wishing (and able) are invited to make a donation in his memory to the Auxiliaires du Centre d’accueil Champlain (275 Perrier, Ottawa ON K1L 5C6).
