Location: This cemetery lies on the west side of the main road from Caen to Falaise (route N158) and just north of the village of Cintheaux. Bretteville-sur-Laize is a village and commune in the department of the Calvados, some 16 kilometres south of Caen. The village of Bretteville lies 3 kilometres south-west of the Cemetery. Buried here are those who died during the later stages of the battle of Normandy, the capture of Caen and the thrust southwards (led initially by the 4th Canadian and 1st Polish Armoured Divisions), to close the Falaise Gap, and thus seal off the German divisions fighting desperately to escape being trapped west of the Seine. Almost every unit of Canadian 2nd Corps is represented in the Cemetery. There are about 3,000 allied forces casualties of the Second World War commemorated in this site.

Est décédé l’hôpital Général, entouré de sa famille vendredi le 13 août 2021, l’âge de 68 ans. Il était le fils de feu Jean-Paul Désormeaux et de feu Victoria Désormeaux (Hoff). Il laisse dans le deuil ses frères et ses soeurs: Danielle, Jean-Paul Jr, Robert, Maurice et Lynne (Jim Tierney), ainsi que ses neveux: Nicolas (Mélanie), Philippe-Michel et Yannick ainsi que ses arrière neveux et nieces: Gabriel, Kayla, Néomie et Alexa-Rose. Il fut prédécédé par ses frères et ses soeurs: Richard, René, Marie, Sylvie et René.
Un service religieux a été célébré dans l’intimité familiale.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Réjean Désormeaux at the General Hospital, surrounded by his family on Friday August 13, 2021 at the age of 68. Dear son of the late Jean-Paul Désormeaux and the late Victoria Désormeaux (Hoff). Dear brother of Danielle, Jean-Paul Jr, Robert, Maurice and Lynne (Jim Tierney). Cherished uncle of Nicolas (Mélanie), Philippe-Michel and Yannick. Uncle of Gabriel, Kayla, Néomie and Alexa-Rose. Predeceased by his brothers and sisters: Richard, René, Marie, Sylvie and René.
A religious service was held in the privacy of the family.
