    Archbishop's Palace
    143 St. Patrick street
Bishop Joseph-Bruno Guigues, who first lived a few doors down on Sussex Drive, required a dignified presence. This broad palace is appropriately grand in its scale and in its walls of finely cut and coursed stone. The characteristically French double-sloped metal mansard roof with bellcast eaves and dormer windows is interrupted twice by gables that trust upward over unusual bay windows. Slated for demolition in the early 1970s, the palace was restored instead, with significant funding from the National Capital Commission and the Ontario Heritage Trust. A large wing from 1863 was demolished at the time of the restoration.
