    – Eugène J. Labelle, homme d’affaires –

    Eugène J. Labelle est né à Ottawa en juin 1874. Il fréquente les écoles séparées d’Ottawa et l’Université d’Ottawa. Journaliste au Spectateur de Hull, au journal Le Canada de Montréal, il devient éditeur-propriétaire et gérant général de la compagnie d’imprimerie Le Courrier fédéral (1917-1925), qui publie le journal du même nom. Il est co-fondateur de l’hebdomadaire Le Canadien en 1924. Eugène Labelle a été le co-propriétaire de l’Académie de quilles York, directeur de Capital Broom et président de la maison funéraire Sylvio Blais Ltée, à Gatineau. Il a aussi été vendeur dans une quincaillerie pendant onze ans. Il est pendant quelque temps commissaire à la Commission des écoles séparées d’Ottawa. Il est élu conseiller municipal d’Ottawa en 1912 et il représente le quartier By pendant cinq ans. Président de l’Association du parti conservateur dans Ottawa-Est pendant plusieurs années, il se présente comme candidat conservateur dans Ottawa-Est en 1934 et en 1937, mais il est défait. Époux d’Emma Laurin (v. 1877-1958), il est père de huit enfants. Décédé à Ottawa le 24 mars 1951 à l’âge de 77 ans, Eugène Labelle laisse un patrimoine immobilier assez considérable, ayant été le propriétaire de plusieurs maisons et immeubles sur les rues Friel et York.
