BARBER, Karen Mary
1957-2021

Suddenly passed away at home on Monday, April 12, 2021 at the age of 63 years. Daughter of the late J Paul Barber and Paulette Barber (nee Cloutier). Dear sister of Diane, Wendy (Allan) and Paul (Ele). Predeceased by her half-brother Mark (Laurie). Loving aunt to Leigh Hubley (Will Ormes-Scott), Mackenzie McTavish (Will), Joe (Carmelle), Joshua Hubley, Cody and Tiana. Predeceased by her nephew Jamie Hubley. Great-aunt to Myaah, Macara, Lilly, Max and Brynn. She will also be missed by her many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues.

A private memorial service will be held in the privacy of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Food Bank would be appreciated. Published on April 17, 2021

BARBER, J. Paul March 23, 1922 - May 22, 2010 Veteran WWII Passed away peacefully in his 89th year at The Rideau Perley Veterans Hospital. Son of the late Paul J. Barber and the late Ruby Boston. Partner of Sandra McLean. Predeceased by his wife Paulette Cloutier. Proud father of Diane, Wendy (Al Hubley), Karen, Paul (Ele). Predeceased by daughter Lynn and son Mark. Cherished and devoted grandfather to Leigh, Mackenzie, Joe, Cody, James, Tiana and Joshua. Brother of Frank, Vincent and Joan. Predeceased by his sister and brothers Mary, Lorne, Bernie, Gerry and Leo. Special thanks to the staff at the Ottawa General Campus as well as the staff at Rideau Perley, Rideau 2 South. Visitation will be held at the Racine Robert & Gauthier Funeral Home (613-241-3680) 180 Montreal Road, Ottawa on Wednesday, May 26 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, May 27, from 9 am until departure time for the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at the Assumption Church, 320 Olmstead Street, Vanier. A private interment will be held on a later date. In lieu of flowers, In Memoriam donation may be made to a charity of your choice.

Au 319 Clarence, il y avait Paul Barber, son épouse Ruby, plusieurs enfants dont Paul junior, Gerry, Lawrence, Leo, ainsi que deux ou trois filles. Le père était de race noire; la mère était une blanche. Cette belle famille de langue anglaise était catholique. Le père Paul vendait des journaux dans le quartier de la Haute-Ville.
Il revenait le soir à bord d’une motocyclette équipée d’un side-car où il plaçait ses journaux. Il était propriétaire d’une grande maison. Je me rappelle qu’il possédait un piano mécanique qu’il montrait aux jeunes du voisinage. C’était toute une invention! De plus, à chaque élection provinciale ou municipale, il louait son salon où les préposés établissaient un bureau de vote où travaillait habituellement
M. Verdon comme employé, comme je l’ai déjà mentionné. Gerry Barber était un garçon très fort; il se mesurait parfois à notre gang, seul contre notre groupe. Plus tard, on l’a engagé longtemps comme bouncer dans un club sur le chemin d’Aylmer. Je l’agaçais et il se mettait à courir après moi; je montais sur le toit des maisons,
il me suivait et rendu à la cheminée, je traversais et lui ne continuait pas. J’attendais qu’il se fatigue en bas, au sol, puis je me décidais à descendre. Gerry se montrait très correct avec nous.
