This tidy Elizabethan box, set back from Sussex, has a flat profile enlivened by large windows and trefoil perforations with provincial coats or arms in the parapet. Built as the Dominion Archives, this is Ewart's earliest show of antiquarian mood, foreshadowed in the Dominion Observatory (H19). The building was tripled in size in 1924 by the heavier wing to the left. Abandoned by the Archives in 1966, it was then occupied by the Canadian War Museum. In 2006, it was leased to the Aga Khan Foundation for its Global Centre for Pluralism. The building's rehabilitation brings new life to an empty building, stripping away layers built by the museum. The new space reorients itself back to its principal axis while maintaining its Baronial architecture.
